Famous Role Models

   Ruth Bader Ginsburg:

Ruth Bader Ginsburg exemplifies what a female role model should be. As the second female to be appointed to the  Supreme Court, Justice Ginsburg has changed the course of history. Throughout her time at Harvard Law School and Columbia Law School, Justice Ginsburg never let the fact that she was one of the few women law students stop her from achieving greatness and accomplishing her goals. She then went on to be one of the few female law professors at Rutgers Law School. Throughout her career, she has advocated for gender equality and women’s rights. She also volunteered for the American Civil Liberties Union, was a member of its board of directors, and founded the American Civil Liberties Union’s Women’s Rights Project.

Justice Ginsburg inspires me because even when people and the odds were against her, she stopped at nothing to achieve what she wanted. She never let what others think of her set her back. Justice Ginsburg is a true inspiration to females aspiring to a professional career, especially one that is mainly male dominated. I too will never let anyone get in the way of me achieving my dreams. Justice Ginsburg has instilled this in millions of females, and for this she is a true inspiration.

Michelle Obama:

Some people might just know Michelle Obama as the former First Lady, but she is so much more than that. Michelle Obama graduated from both Princeton University and Harvard University. Michelle was a successful lawyer at the Sidley & Austin law firm of Chicago, Illinois. She also held many public sector positions in the Chicago city government, such as Assistant to the Mayor and Assistant Commissioner of Planning and Development. As First Lady, Michelle developed many programs that advocated for higher education for women through the 2015 Let Girls Learn campaign, a U.S. government initiative aimed at helping adolescent girls attain a quality education that empowers them to reach their full potential, and Reach Higher campaign, an effort to inspire every student in America to complete their education past high school. Although no longer First Lady, Michelle Obama is still a strong female role model through her continued philanthropy and activism. She is the epitome of a strong, independent, woman.

I look up to Michelle Obama because she used and continues to use her influence to make the world a better place. Behind this desire to better the world, Michelle Obama is highly accomplished in the professional realm. Michelle Obama never let having an accomplished husband stop her from pursing her goals and becoming accomplished as well.

Emma Watson:

I look up to Emma Watson for a variety of reasons. Not only is Watson successful in her chosen field as an actor, but she also has a degree from Brown University, which she earned while working on movies. Emma is a strong advocate for women’s rights. In 2016, she even rapped with Lin-Manuel Miranda in honor of International Women’s Day. Emma spearheads the United Nations Women’s He For She campaign, a campaign that advances gender equality,  and encourages literacy and a love of learning through her book club called “Out Shared Shelf.”

I admire Emma Watson because she actively chooses to inspire young women. As a young celebrity, there are many other things she could be using her time for. Instead, Emma Watson chooses to help young females feel proud of who they are. More young female celebrities need to be like Emma Watson.
